Fast Facts: Frogs (Part 4)

Welcome to Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope!

I’m Carl Kerby, and we’re talking about the frog that’s won the ugliest frog in the world contest for three years running!

I’m joking, of course (there’s no such thing), but I’m not joking when I say they’re ugly.

In Peru, we find Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world with a surface elevation of over 12,000 feet.

Here you’ll also find the largest fully aquatic frog in the world called the “Telmatobius Frog.”

These amazing frogs have extra layers of skin, just like a “Shar Pei.”

Why’s that? Remember, where they’re located? There’s not much oxygen up there.

This amazing design feature helps them survive in that kind of environment.

They spend most of their days at the bottom of the lake doing “push-ups!”

“Why?” you may ask!

Well … because this movement causes the oxygen-saturated water to circulate around their body and their skin acts like a “gill”, absorbing oxygen from the water!

No way!  Yes, way!

And there’s more … but it will have to wait until next time.  Until then … stay bold!
