Fast Facts: Frogs (Part 1)

Welcome to Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope!

I’m Carl Kerby. What hops, carries its young in a pouch … and is green!  Gotcha!  It’s not a kangaroo, it’s a “Kanga-frog!”

Sorry,  there’s no “Kanga-frog,” but there is a “Marsupial” frog.  And guess what, they hop, have a pouch, and … are green.

There are over 60 species of this amazing frog and most of them live in the Andes Mountains.

They’re a very small frog, but have an unbelievable way of reproducing.  Momma frog lays the eggs, daddy fertilizes them, and in some species, he then helps push the eggs into a pouch that momma has on her back where they’ll develop.

In one species, when they become tadpoles, Momma will drop them in water so they can continue to grow, and in another species, the babies emerge from Momma’s pouch as froglets!

I love frogs and we’ll talk more about them in the next, Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope.  Until then . . . stay bold!
