Welcome to Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope. I’m Carl Kerby and we’re talking about the world famous alligator today!
Well, I don’t know if they’re really “world famous,” but they were the star of a movie that was understandably called, “Alligator.” The fact is, they may not be a “true” movie star, but they’re still a really amazing animal!
There are actually two different types of alligators: the American alligator and the Chinese alligator.
The American alligator can be over 11 feet long and weigh nearly 1,000 pounds. The Chinese alligator is actually much smaller. It is less than 5 feet long and weighs only about 50 pounds.
The Chinese alligator lives in eastern China and is in danger of becoming extinct. Their natural habitat is being turned into rice paddies, so they’re disappearing very quickly. Today, they live mainly in ditches and ponds on agricultural lands.
Do you know how many teeth an alligator has? Unfortunately, our time is up so we’ll talk about that in the next Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope. Until then, stay bold!
