Welcome to Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope! I’m Carl Kerby and, today, we’re going to be talking about one of the best and busiest builders ever – the bee.
The bee is the most economical builder ever known. All the way back in 36 BC, a man named Marcus Terentius Varro said that the honeycomb was the most practical structure ever made.
Fast forward two thousand years and a man named Thomas Hales wrote a nineteen-page mathematical proof showing exactly that. His paper showed that, of all possible structures, honeycomb used the least amount of wax.
In addition, the walls that the bee builds into the honeycomb make precise 120-degree angles and are perfect hexagons. I wonder where it went to school to figure that out? Do they even make slide rules that small?
The fact is, the bee is not the bumbling bully that just goes around stinging people for fun, which some people believe it to be. Instead, it is the ultimate perfectionist, a general contractor of the highest caliber.
In short, the bee has God’s fingerprints all over it!
Until next time, stay bold!
