Welcome to Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope! I’m Carl Kerby and, today, we’re going to be talking about the sweetest part of having bees – we’re talking honey, honey!
Did you know that a single honeybee will visit 50-100 flowers on one trip out of the hive and, yet, only produce 1/12 of a teaspoon in its entire lifetime?
To make one pound of honey, the bees from a single colony must visit two million flowers and fly over fifty-five thousand miles, while flapping their wings two hundred times per second.
To transport this substance, the bee has two separate stomachs – one for food and the other for nectar.
Did you know that honey is the only food that includes all the substances necessary to sustain life, including enzymes, water, vitamins, and minerals? If you had to, you could literally live on honey!
Here’s the best part, though. Did you know that honey never spoils?
It’s also hygroscopic (it absorbs water and is good for healing wounds), antibacterial, and a potent source of antioxidants.
The fact is, honey rocks!
Until next time, stay bold!
