William J. On Sunday, December 29th, America received the news that former President Jimmy Carter, who served one term from 1977 to 1981, passed away at the age of 100.  Born in Plains, Georgia, he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1946 and married his wife Rosalynn that same year.  He returned to the family farm in 1953 and eventually served in the Georgia senate.  He was elected governor of Georgia in 1970 and in 1976 he was elected president.
