Jim began by noting how it’s been amazing to see the collapse of our nation’s border security in less than 8 months. Individuals from all over the world are entering the U.S. through our southwest border. As that happens, it’s not criminal aliens who are being vilified, but instead it’s our own border agents who are coming under great scrutiny, even from President Biden.
Todd Bensman has recently been at the border and he joined Jim to report on this matter absent the politically correct filters of the mainstream media. He’s senior national security fellow with the Center for Immigration Studies. He is also the author of America’s Covert Border War: The Untold Story of the Nation’s Battle to Prevent Jihadist Infiltration.
During the last year of the Trump presidency, and before the pandemic-related border closures, the number of illegal border crossings ran around 20,000 to 30,000 per month. While still high, that’s nothing compared to the 250,000 per month at the present time under President Biden.
Since the inauguration, Todd has spent time at various parts of the border. His last trip was to the Del Rio migrant encampment that formed around September 12th. He described it as something rather unusual in American history because so many people gathered in one area. The visual image of that became a “political canker sore” for the current administration that had to be quickly eliminated because, according to Todd, it looked like a third-world nation.
When this is discussed we hear about Haitians. How do they get to our border? Todd indicated that immigrants from about 120-130 nations have access to migration routes through South and Central America on up to our southern border.
One of the misconceptions is that they’re coming from Haiti when in fact, none of them are. They have been living in relative prosperity (compared to Haiti) in Chile and Brazil for between 3 to 7 years with residency permits and work authorizations provided by these governments. They were riding out the Trump order, waiting for Democrats to get into office. Some of these individuals told Todd that they saw how President Biden was opening the border and the smuggling money was about to pay off. Todd described it as a time for them to upgrade their already pretty good lives in Chile and Brazil for an even better one in the U.S. They want to apply for asylum on the grounds that they can’t be returned to Haiti. So they dump their I.D. cards on the Mexican side of the river so that they aren’t “outed” as having been domiciled in a safe third country.
As the broadcast moved along, Todd described how the Biden administration has dealt with the Haitian encampment situation, why some buses full of Haitians were hijacked, what really took place with the border agents on horseback, the morale of the border agents, what this means for Biden’s polling numbers and much more.
