God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we could ever ask or think. He’s omnipotent and all-powerful. However, the guest on this edition of Crosstalk says there are things God cannot do. In fact, he rejoices in those things.
Although this may seem like a contradiction, Mike Gendron uses Scripture to show why it’s not. He’s the founder and director of Proclaiming the Gospel Ministry. Mike was a devout Roman Catholic for over 3 decades and was taught to rely upon the authority of the church above all else. He searched the Scriptures and was amazed to find that what he read in Scripture contradicted the teaching and tradition of the church he had been a part of for so long. He trusted Jesus as his Savior and now the Bible has become his sole authority in all matters of faith. Mike is the author of the books, Preparing for Eternity and Contending for the Gospel and has produced numerous videos with warnings concerning false teachings vs. the truth of the Scriptures.
Mike doesn’t deny the omnipotence of God. In fact, he describes God as incomprehensible. More specifically, Mike noted how God is all-knowing, all-wise, all-powerful, sovereign over all His creation, omnipresent and transcendent. Yet in spite of all that, there are some things He cannot do.
The reason why there are some things God cannot do is because He cannot violate His holy character/nature. He’s always consistent with who He is and all that He’s revealed in His Word. He’s absolutely incapable of unrighteousness, unholiness and unjust acts.
The fact that God will never go against His Holy character should give us great confidence. Want to know more? Review this broadcast and you’ll hear Mike explain from Scripture how God cannot:
- stop existing
- lie
- change/learn/forget anything
- break His promises
- allow sin to go unpunished
- condemn those He has justified
