As many Crosstalk listeners know, President Trump named Amy Coney Barrett as his nominee for the vacant Supreme Court seat left due to the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Yesterday’s Crosstalk dealt with many of the legal mechanics surrounding this choice, while this broadcast looked specifically at the implications surrounding the issue of life.
Joining Jim for this discussion was Brad Mattes. Brad is the president of Life Issues Institute, the pro-life grassroots partner of the Susan B. Anthony List Education Fund. Life Issues Institute was founded in 1991 to serve the educational needs of the pro-life movement. Brad is the host of Life Issues, a daily radio commentary and also producer of multiple pro-life specials including one they have recently released, Court is in Session: Life Hangs in the Balance.
Shortly after Ginsburg’s death, Planned Parenthood sent out a desperate fundraising e-mail to its supporters because they don’t want another conservative justice added to the court. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, knowing how high the stakes are for the pro-abortion side, communicated that nothing is off the table. Even Kamala Harris slammed Barrett as a threat to abortion.
What went through Brad’s mind when Barrett was nominated by President Trump? She was actually his choice for the last two vacancies so he used the terms, ‘joy,’ ‘laughter,’ and ‘praise to God.’ This high praise for Barrett should come as no surprise as Brad noted she has a very good record on abortion from her time on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. Her pro-life stand in court situations is also lived out in her life as she’s the mother of 7 children, two that were adopted from Haiti and their youngest son has Down Syndrome.
How did Brad describe the legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg? What could flipping the Senate to Democrats mean for the Supreme Court and the life issue? What is ‘stare decisis’? As these questions are answered, you’ll see why the implications for life alone from this decision will be huge and you can hear it all when you review this vital edition of Crosstalk.
(You can hear Court is in Session: Life Hangs in the Balance on VCY America owned and operated stations this Friday October 2nd at 12 noon and 5:30pm Central Time. It will also air Saturday evening at 8pm Central Time.)
