If you’ve been exposed to any media in recent days, you’ve probably noticed the increased impeachment fever coming from the majority controlled House of Representatives. Along with that, some in the mainstream media appear to be fanning the flames for this and have been doing so ever since the trumped up charges of Russian collusion. Since that effort failed, now we’re on to another alleged scandal and it doesn’t seem to matter if a ‘whistle blower’ is depending upon hearsay or what the facts are. All that seems to matter is that there must be a new surge of investigations into matters pertaining to the president.
Joining Crosstalk to discuss Ukraine, impeachment, Joe Biden and other related issues was Robert Romano. Robert is the Vice President of Public Policy with Americans for Limited Government.
Robert began by going back to 2013 and former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. He was considering a trade agreement with the European Union. Trump Campaign Chairman Paul Manafort was Yanukovych’s advisor and he was encouraging the trade deal with the EU. Yanukovych rejected Manafort’s advice. Soon there were protests by pro-EU protesters in Kiev who felt that Yanukovych needed to adopt the trade deal. Then in February of 2014, peaceful protests turned bloody which evolved into a civil war. Yanukovych was impeached and he fled to Russia. The U.S. installed a new administration there and within weeks the trade deal was underway.
Joe Biden was put in charge of Ukraine policy as the U.S. helped topple the government there, seemingly to help get this trade deal enacted. Robert explained that Ukraine was one of those examples you could point to where you could see this hadn’t turned out well because since the civil war broke out, the people in Crimea were now saying they wanted to side with Russia. In addition, there were the separatist uprisings in eastern Ukraine. So Ukraine was basically split right down the middle.
Fast forward to 2016 and you see that due to these factors, President Trump was saying we need to improve our relations with Russia because this could be a catalyst for World War III. This is when U.S. intelligence agencies started coming after the president with the false allegations of Russian collusion.
Robert Mueller found that there was no collusion with Russia. President Trump and Attorney General William Barr then tried to get to the bottom of what certain agencies were up to and why they were so convinced that the president was allegedly a Russian agent, why Christopher Steele was involved, the feeding of information to the Clinton campaign, the FISA warrants against the Trump campaign, etc.
So as President Trump spoke with foreign leaders, one of them being the Ukrainian president, Politico had a report in early 2017 that Ukraine had its own pro-Clinton election interference operation that was trying to make President Trump appear as a Russian agent.
Then there’s the ‘whistle blower’ who doesn’t have first-hand knowledge of the president’s conversation that occurred on July 25th. Robert described how this person gets numerous facts wrong and Jim noted how the rules concerning ‘whistle blowers’ mysteriously changed recently to allow for hearsay.
Does the declassified conversation that President Trump had with the Ukrainian president substantiate anything said by the ‘whistle blower’? How does House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff fit into all of this? Could all of this actually be a smokescreen that’s attempting to hide what the Obama administration was doing in 2016?
