Jim began this issue of Crosstalk with a special announcement for Wisconsin listeners. Yesterday the state Senate had posted the calendar of their floor agenda for tomorrow and one item stood out. That was a resolution to honor the life and public service of the late founder of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, Anne Nicole Gaylor.
Anne was a strong abortion advocate who saw religion as a hindrance to abortion so she did whatever she could to do away with religion in public life.
This morning, VCY America did a special program on this issue and at about 1pm Central Time, the senate calendar was changed to omit the resolution. Jim pointed out a number of excuses put forth by various senate offices for the change, but nonetheless, this resolution is no longer on the docket.
Gaylor’s life is just one example of how we live in a culture of death in America. Since 1973 over 58 million lives have been taken via abortion and since we’re not replenishing our population, we have a growing elderly population that some feel is generating problems of its own. It was warned by some that one day putting the elderly and terminally ill to death would come. Today assisted suicide is legal in Oregon, Washington, Vermont, Montana and now California is poised to join them.
Joining Jim to discuss this issue was Randy Thomasson. Randy is a veteran pro-family leader and president of SaveCalifornia.com. Their organization stands strong for moral virtues for the common good.
On September 11th, the California legislature(run by Democrats)passed a resolution commending the victims of the holocaust and marked the sacrifice of those who died in 9-11. At the same time (while it was suicide prevention week) they also stood up for doctor assisted suicide. The previous bill, which was thought to be dead, had come back to life in a different bill number and the Democrats pushed it through via a special legislative session that was supposed to deal with Medi-Cal funding.
As Randy explained, this bill is very dangerous because it doesn’t ensure individual choice and control as its proponents claim. This means that the elderly, the weak, the vulnerable and even young people could be steered by the state and insurers toward suicide as well as by family members who don’t love them.
Randy and Jim flush out the deceptive thinking behind this issue and what you can do to make a difference.
