Twila Brase is President of the Citizen’s Council for Health Freedom and is a certified public health nurse. She provides a daily commentary on the Health Freedom Minute and has provided testimony before legislative bodies. The Citizens Council for Health Freedom supports patient and doctor freedom, medical innovation and the right of citizens to a confident patient-doctor relationship.
The Emergency Health Powers Act was developed on a federal basis for 3 years before 9-11. It was a model piece of legislation and different states agreed to pass different parts of it. 40 states have these powers including quarantine, isolation, commandeering of private property, engaging the National Guard to enforce the law, forced treatment examination testing and more. Some of this can be done without a court order or by obtaining a court order after you are detained.
Obviously this act broadens state powers way beyond the scope of basic societal health concerns but even at that level it gives authorities the ability to determine which hospitals have certain types of life saving equipment or medications.
Twila also presented her views concerning hospital preparation for Ebola, the spreading of this disease, how our nation should be responding to this outbreak and much more.
