Israel Wayne is the co-founder of Family Renewal Ministries. He is an author, columnist and conference speaker. He is the father of eight, who is passionate about defending the Christian faith and developing a biblical worldview. Some of his books include, ‘Homeschooling from a Biblical Worldview’ and ‘Full-Time Parenting: A Guide to Family Based Discipleship’. He appeared on Crosstalk to discuss his latest book, ‘Questions God Asks’ which is subtitled, ‘Unlocking the Wisdom of Eternity’.
Israel began by describing how he noticed there are places where God would ask questions of man. This had him wondering why because one of the doctrines that we know to be true of God is that he’s omniscient. So why would the God who knows everything, ask a question? Obviously God knows the answer so it must have to do with getting the person he’s questioning to think about or consider something. Also, Israel reasoned that since the question is recorded in Scripture, it’s not arbitrary so there must be a reason why it’s there for us as well.
Questions discussed on this edition of Crosstalk include:
Job 38:4–“Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth?”
Genesis 3:9–God asked Adam, ‘Where art thou…? Is this a geographical question or is this a question where God is trying to get Adam to explain the shift that has taken place now that he and Eve have eaten of the tree in the midst of the garden?
God’s question for Elijah after fleeing to Horeb where he took lodging in a cave. God asked, ‘What doest thou here, Elijah?
Israel also contrasts the younger Moses with the Moses who had an encounter with God in the incident of the burning bush. He brings interesting insight to the question of what was in the hand of Moses and how the fact that the staff turned into a snake has application for all of us today.
This is just a portion of what’s discussed on this Crosstalk as Jim and Israel examine the questions God asks of men.
