Mark Krikorian is a nationally recognized expert on immigration issues. He is the Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies, serving in that position since 1995. The Center of Immigration Studies is an independent, non-partisan research organization in Washington, D.C., that examines and critiques the impact of immigration on the United States. Mr. Krikorian’s knowledge and expertise in the immigration field is sought by Congress as he frequently testifies before them.
Jim began by noting that the ‘faucet is wide open’ at the U.S. southern border. We’re being told that the Obama administration is using our border patrol agents as babysitters for the children of illegal aliens.
According to Mark, the Obama administration has been weakening the enforcement of immigration laws. Word of this has gotten back to Central America and the result has been a surge of families with children as well as teenagers that are coming on their own. The number of unaccompanied minors alone this year is around 50,000 and could reach as high as 90,000. Next year they think it could be about 140,000.
Unfortunately the current administration is just letting them in, vaccinating them, finding out where their relatives are (even if they’re illegal) and delivering them for free. If they’re mothers with children, this administration is giving them bus tickets to wherever they want to go.
Some would argue that this apparent refugee resettlement operation by the Obama administration is the right thing to do because we don’t have the right to turn anyone away. On the other hand, Mark believes this is an abandonment of the basic responsibility of the executive branch to enforce the laws and protect American sovereignty.
Is there a solution that can allow people to move here in a manner that honors the rule of law while at the same time protecting American sovereignty? Are the Republicans and the Democrats really on opposite ends of the ideological spectrum when it comes to border security and immigration? Form your own view and find out what you can do when you review this thought provoking Crosstalk broadcast.
