Larry Pratt is Executive Director of Gun Owners of America.
Less than 24 hours after the presidential election, there was a vote from the U.N. to start a new round of talks on an arms-trade treaty. Jim reported that Congressman Tim Huelscamp of Kansas indicated that although the resolution was expected, he finds it appalling that the current administration is willing to put the U.N.’s agenda ahead of America’s constitutionally guaranteed rights.
It’s likely that President Obama’s anti-firearms views would not have been well received by many Americans while he was on the campaign trail. However, now with the campaign behind him, his administration can push ahead to challenge Second Amendment rights.
Don’t assume that these challenges will always come in the form of pre-packaged legislation with anti-Second Amendment names. For example, Obamacare is also a concern on the gun ownership level because of its lack of privacy. As Larry pointed out, this means that under Obamacare, if it’s deemed that you’re a danger to yourself and others without due process, you could have the B.A.T.F. knocking on your door to take your guns way.
Now that the election is over, find out what else may be on the horizon concerning the Second Amendment on this edition of Crosstalk.
