I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about the government’s role in society.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
That line from the Declaration of Independence is inspiring – but it’s also a reminder of where rights really come from – God.
Today, as governments across the globe grow in power, some people fall into the trap of thinking that governments bestow rights on their citizens – as if governments were gods.
But Romans 13 tells us that THE LORD was the One who established government, and He created government as a PROTECTOR of the rights that HE gave people.
Governments are best when they realize they are God’s stewards, a protector – not a giver – of the rights the Lord has blessed us with.
And what are believers to think of capital punishment? We’ll discuss that another time.
