Environmentalism (Part 2)

Welcome!

I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about environmentalism again.

Some believers hold that extreme environmentalism is perfectly compatible with Christianity – but is this really the case?

Theologian Harold O. J. Brown has said that the ecological movement has become “increasingly captive to essentially non-Christian and intellectually indefensible ideas” and that “essentially pagan and idolatrous ideas are being insinuated into Western consciousness under the cloak of concern for the environment, personalized as ‘Mother Earth.’”

Truth is, radical environmentalism gives higher allegiance to the earth than to its Maker. Romans 1:25 describes this as people [w]ho “changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator.” Rather than giving glory to God as the Creator and sustainer of life, environmentalism gives glory to the earth – an idea that is clearly out of step with Scripture.

Now, what else are believers to think of radical environmentalism? We’ll discuss that another time.
