The Importance of Mothers (Part 1)

Welcome!

I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about the importance of mothers in the home.

For decades, feminist leaders have disparaged the biblical role of a mother – especially when that means staying home with her children – as an old-fashioned, patriarchal idea that is outmoded for today. These feminists insist women waste their lives by investing them in child-rearing.

But … research consistently shows that a mother’s role in the family is indispensable.

In his classic study, British psychologist John Bowlby conducted a scientific observation of orphaned boys to see how their development was affected by not having parents in their lives. Bowlby’s conclusion was unmistakable: a child’s lack of attachment to parents – specifically to his mother – negatively affected that child’s educational, relational, and personal development.

As C.S. Lewis said, “Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important work.”

And how else are mothers important in the home? We’ll discuss that another time.
