Legislating Morality (Part 2)

Welcome!

I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about “legislating morality.”

Beginning in the twentieth century, Western nations began to repeal moral laws that reflected a biblical worldview — such as prohibitions of adultery, divorce, and pornography — insisting that morality is a “private issue” that governments shouldn’t address.

The result?

Research indicates this “sexual revolution” has led to increased sexually transmitted diseases, less-secure relationships, higher abortion rates, increased divorce, more single-parent homes, and — ultimately — unhappier people.

As apologist Charles Colson said, “We are stripping religion away from public life to our great and everlasting peril … We are trying to erase the indispensable role of religion in informing the moral consensus by which civilized society has survived.”

A nation’s government has the responsibility of protecting the welfare of its citizens, and this includes legislating morality.

Now, what happens to nations that reject God’s moral law? We’ll discuss that another time.
