I’m Bub Kuns and today we’re talking about communism.
Russian revolutionist Vladimir Lenin once said, “The goal of socialism is communism.”
You see, as time goes on, socialist governments control more and more aspects of their citizens’ lives. This increased control can easily morph into communism.
Take Venezuela, for example. In 1999, Hugo Chavez legitimately won the presidency as a socialist. But the longer he held office, the more power his government seized.
As economist Thomas Gordon said, “In Venezuela, the democratically elected Chavistas pushed for governmental control…quashing dissent and controlling the population…The result in Venezuela was that stores had no goods on their shelves, hospitals had no medicines or machines that worked, and ordinary people took to looking through trash for food…the legislature was restructured, the judiciary was stacked, and the electoral system was compromised.”
Sadly, Venezuela today is a communist dictatorship, completely suppressing its people’s freedom.
But can governments turn back from socialism before it’s too late? We’ll discuss that another time.
