I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about communism.
Some people may hear the term “communism” and wonder how it differs from socialism.
Both socialism and communism have identical underlying philosophies: a centralized government controls its citizens, forces collection and redistribution of their money, and restricts their personal freedoms. And both socialism and communism are incompatible with a Christian worldview.
As Author Ayn Rand remarked, “There is no difference between communism and socialism, except in the means of achieving the same ultimate end: communism proposes to enslave men by force, socialism – by vote. It is merely the difference between murder and suicide.”
In contrast, societies reflecting a biblical worldview have historically offered the most freedom. As 2 Corinthians 3:17 says, “[W]here the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”
Now how should Christians respond to communism? We’ll discuss that another time.
