I’m Bub Kuns, and today we’re talking about a Christian response to socialism.
Socialists portray capitalism as an economic system that oppresses the poor. But capitalism gives the poor an opportunity to be successful that they can never find in socialism.
The book of Proverbs is full of financial principles, all stating that DILIGENCE and HARD WORK bring economic success — NOT GOVERNMENT DEPENDENCE.
For example, Proverbs 21:5 says, “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance.” Proverbs 12:24 says, “The hand of the diligent will rule.” Proverbs 22:29 says, “Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings.”
As the late Charles Colson said, “[F]ree markets are an effective tool for helping the poor. Historically, free economies have the best record of empowering the poor to climb out of poverty.”
Now how does SOCIALISM differ from COMMUNISM? We’ll discuss that another time.
