Welcome to Apologetics with Carl Kerby!
Today, we’re talking about marijuana.
Marijuana is being legalized at a record pace. Since 2012, RECREATIONAL marijuana has been legalized in 19 states and Washington D.C., with more considering legalization.
Increased legalization has given the false idea that marijuana is harmless, leading to growing numbers of teens trying it. In fact, University of Michigan Health found nearly HALF of all teens in America have tried marijuana by 12th grade.
But marijuana ISN’T harmless.
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, marijuana is associated with cognitive impairment – including permanent loss of IQ – as well as depression and anxiety. In fact, the organization concludes that marijuana leads to “relationship problems, worse educational outcomes, lower career achievement, and reduced life satisfaction.”
Proverbs 22:3 says it best: “The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it” (ESV).
Wise people stay away from marijuana.
And what are other problems with marijuana? We’ll discuss them another time.
