LIFE ISSUES: Teens and Substance Abuse

Welcome to Apologetics with Carl Kerby!

Today, we’re talking about teens and substance abuse.

Alcohol and drugs are a huge problem among teens in the U.S., ruining many young lives. But substance abuse can also lead teens to CRIME.

According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, “Substance use in minors increases the likelihood that they will commit crimes, including violent crimes like assault, sexual assault, and even homicide.” The council notes that nearly 9 in 10 teens considered “juvenile offenders” have used alcohol and drugs. In fact, almost 2/3 of teens arrested for crime were found to use alcohol or drugs DAILY.

Romans 6 tells us that we are slaves to whatever we yield to. Substance abuse enslaves teens in lives in which they hurt themselves and others. True liberty from this bondage is only found in the One who died to set us free from sin and its consequences – Jesus Christ.

And what about marijuana? We’ll discuss that another time.
