LIFE ISSUES: Alcoholism (Part 2)

Welcome to Apologetics with Carl Kerby!

Alcoholism often affects more than just individuals — it affects families, too.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics reports that TWO-THIRDS of domestic violence victims are assaulted by spouses under the influence of alcohol.

In addition to obvious physical danger, domestic violence also brings emotional and spiritual danger, creating a toxic atmosphere in the home.

Scripture speaks of alcohol’s risks. Isaiah 5 says that alcohol “inflames” those who consume it, controlling a person’s mind and emotions. Proverbs 23 tells us that alcohol “bites like a serpent and stings like an adder.”

God designed the family to be a place of refuge in this world — a place where a father and mother create an environment of trust and love for their children. We must guard against the dangers of alcohol to avoid the havoc it can cause in the home.

And what are other life issues? We’ll discuss them another time.
