Welcome to Apologetics with Carl Kerby!
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is one of the fastest growing religions in America. But what is the Mormon Church’s view of God?
Well, Mormonism teaches that God WASN’T ALWAYS GOD! Joseph Smith, Mormonism’s founder, said, “God was once as we are now, and is an exalted man.” In other words, Smith was claiming that God was simply a mortal man who somehow became deity – that He was not eternal. In fact, Smith claimed that good Mormons could become “gods” someday themselves!
But the Lord reminds us in Deut. 33:27 that He is “the ETERNAL God,” and in Isaiah 45:5 that “there is NO GOD BESIDE [HIM].”
Mormons also reject the biblical doctrine of the Trinity – that there is one God in three persons. Instead, Mormonism views the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as THREE DIFFERENT GODS!
And what else does Mormonism believe? We’ll discuss them another time.
