FALSE RELIGIONS: Hinduism (Part 2)

Welcome to Apologetics with Carl Kerby!

Today, we’re talking about Hinduism.

Hinduism is best known for its “caste system.” This system, supposedly instituted by the Hindu god Brahma, separates all Hindus by class:

  • The highest is the Brahman caste: Hindu priests and intellectuals
  • Next is the Kshatriya caste: military leaders and landowners
  • Below that is the Vaishya caste: merchants and skilled craftsmen
  • Last is the Shudra caste: common laborers and farmers

Oh, and there is one more group in Hinduism: the Dalits, known as the “untouchables.” These outcasts include beggars, street sweepers, the homeless, and the disabled. Once a person is born into one of these groups, he can never leave it. Lower caste members – and especially the Dalits – face daily mistreatment and discrimination.

This is so different from the Gospel, which teaches that all humans – rich, poor, healthy, and disabled – have equal worth because they’re made in God’s image.

In what other ways is HINDUISM different from Christianity? We’ll discuss that another time.
