Welcome to Apologetics with Carl Kerby!
Today, we’re talking about how Buddhism views the CAUSE OF SUFFERING.
Buddhism teaches that suffering is the ultimate source of evil and is caused by man’s inward cravings and spiritual ignorance. In other words, suffering is not a result of man’s WRONG ACTIONS but of man not having THE RIGHT FRAME OF MIND. Buddhists attempt to eliminate suffering by renouncing personal desires and meditating on Buddhist teachings. Ultimately, Buddhists contend that the answer to man’s problems lies within himself – not really a good place to find answers considering that’s where the problems began!
In contrast, Scripture tells us suffering in the world was the result of man’s disobedience to God. It was sin that corrupted creation and brought death. The remedy to sin’s destruction lies not in man but in GOD who sent His Son to die on the cross to save us.
And where does Buddhism stand on other Christian beliefs? We’ll discuss that another time.
