Welcome to Apologetics with Carl Kerby!
Today we’re discussing how Islam views the Trinity.
Since Islam prides itself on believing in “one God,” the religion fiercely rejects the idea of the triune Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In fact, many Muslims DON’T EVEN UNDERSTAND the Trinity – many Muslims wrongly think the Trinity is made up of God, Jesus, and Mary! But even when correctly understood, Muslims often accuse Christians of believing in three gods, or being polytheistic.
What Islam fails to recognize is that “one God” DOESN’T MEAN there can’t be different parts within that oneness. In fact, when Deuteronomy 6:4 says, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord,” it uses the word “ONE” – SHEMA in Hebrew – it’s the same word used in Numbers 13:23 to describe a single cluster of grapes – one cluster with multiple grapes. Similarly, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are one God but three persons.
And Islam and Christianity have more contrasts. We’ll discuss them at another time.
