Welcome to Apologetics with Carl Kerby!
Today, we’re talking about Hinduism’s view of Jesus Christ. Christians hold that Christ is divine, just as He claimed. But what does Hinduism say about Jesus? Hinduism, developed over thousands of years in Southwest Asia, holds that an impersonal force, not a personal God, is ultimate reality. Its polytheistic worldview has resulted in the religion’s recognition of more than 30 million “gods.”
So, how does this religion view Jesus? Well, some Hindus can accept Jesus as a god, but just as another one of the 30 million. Most Hindus view Jesus as just “a wise teacher” or “guru.” Some have referred to Jesus as a Hindu “saint,” but this sainthood is theoretically what anyone could obtain through Hindu practice.
In contrast, Colossians 2:9 says, “For in him (Jesus) dwells ALL the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” According to Scripture, then, Jesus is unique – the one-and-only Son of God.
How does Buddhism view Jesus? We’ll discuss that another time.
