Today, we’re talking about evidence from biblical prophecy. The Old Testament is filled with ancient prophecies about the coming Jewish Messiah – over three hundred of them! Prophets such as Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Micah described the minute details of the future Messiah’s life and ministry.
Now, what are the chances that even some of these prophecies could be fulfilled by any one man? Mathematician Peter Stoner calculated how difficult it would be for just eight Old Testament prophecies to be fulfilled by one person. He said:
[T]he chance that any man might have lived down to the present age and fulfilled … eight prophecies is 1 chance in 1017.
That means 10 with 17 zeros behind it! In other words, it’s next to impossible! Yet, Jesus fulfilled over 300 prophecies! By doing so, He demonstrated both that He is the long-awaited Messiah, and that the Bible is reliable.
