Today, we’re talking about worldviews. A large majority of Americans believe man is not evil by nature; many believe man is innately good! This contradicts Scripture, but it also contradicts reality around us. With increasing violence and recent rioting in major cities, it seems like a no-brainer that mankind has a propensity to evil.
But even when evil seems evident, people have a hard time admitting to man’s sinful nature. Anne Frank, whose diary records her experience hiding from Nazis before her death by gas chamber, wrote:
In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.
As apologist Charles Colson noted, the ironic truth is that her death by the Nazis demonstrates just how “not good” man can be when unrestrained. In fact, Jeremiah 17:9 describes man’s heart as “desperately wicked.” Only redemption through Christ can change that!
