So … did our supposed evolutionary ancestor, Lucy, have hands and feet like humans? Remember, no hand or foot bones were found for Lucy, but bones were found from her supposed relatives. What did they show?
First, go to museums, look in text books, or search on the internet for reconstructions of Lucy. When you do, you’ll see human hands and feet. Chimps hands and feet are very different from our own. For example, we can’t hang from a tree by our toes, but that’s nothing for an ape.
So … drum roll please … does the fossil evidence support these depictions of Lucy that our children see day in and day out?
No!!
As a matter of fact, the actual evidence shows that Lucy’s species had hands and feet with “strongly curved finger and toe bones, as do chimpanzees and orangutans.”
