On this day many families will gather around to read from the Gospels of Matthew or Luke as they celebrate the birth of the Savior. But we really should start reading back in Genesis!

You see, the promise of the Savior begins in Genesis chapter three. After Adam and Eve sinned and brought death into the world, God promised that someday the Seed of the woman would crush the head of the serpent. Throughout the Old Testament this promise of a coming Savior is made over and over, and more and more specifically. And then, one night in the small town of Bethlehem, after 4,000 years of waiting, the Savior arrives!
