God and Suffering

How can we answer someone who’s hurting who asks, “why would a good God create death and suffering?”

Well, in Genesis we read that God created everything “very good.” There was no pain, suffering, death, or disease. But the first two people God made chose to disobey him, and the penalty for sin is death. That choice brought death and suffering into creation. Because of their sin, and our sin since them, the world groans in pain.

But there’s more! God’s Son, Jesus, took our penalty, death, upon himself when he died on the Cross. Then he rose from the dead, conquering death, and offers eternal life to all who believe.
