Many ancient peoples believed that earth must sit on something. Some thought it was the backs of elephants, others said it was pillars, and still others said earth rests on fish—or a great bull. But what does the Bible say?
Well, in the book of Job, we read that God “hangs the earth on nothing.” This verse is written in a poetic way, but it suggests that Earth floats in space, which, of course, it does! Pictures of the earth taken from space show it floating in space. It literally hangs upon nothing, just as the Bible suggests.
This reminds us that the Bible isn’t a human book. It was written by the Creator.
