Yesterday we learned there are now eight billion people on planet earth. And that we shouldn’t think of this as a bad thing!
You see, God gave us a mandate right at the beginning to be fruitful and multiply and to subdue the earth, having dominion over it. So, filling the earth with people is part of fulfilling God’s instructions!
Understanding dominion is important because it puts nature into the right perspective. Nature has intrinsic value because it was made by God and he cares for what he’s made. But it isn’t more important than people who bear God’s image. Nature shouldn’t rule over us—we should rule over it, for God’s glory.
